A pet Portrait finally finished. Such a beautiful dog. I had difficulty with this one and I’m not sure why.
This months Nibblefest ‘s theme is Christmas Trees. I found this a difficult theme, and decided that while fir trees are beautiful I needed to move in a different direction. I wanted the soft cool crisp feeling of the Christmas morning and the warmth of the surprise that the colour of Christmas brings to the world.
This brought me to this abstracted tree with a single red ball. Is it a Christmas ball? Or is it the last apple some how magically left pristine in the silence of winter waiting for a small animal to find the magnificent present?
My latest in the dime store dollies project. This was one of those truly ugly Bratz baby rip off dolls. Her head and limbs kept falling off. I remounted the head using elastics around the neck knob to hold it firm, and glued the arms and legs into place using a type of white glue, but much stronger.
She was primed and them hand painted with artists acrylics. I painted her T-shirt and added little “dance pants” striped stockings and Mary-Jane shoes in paint.
I really like the way her eyes turned out this time.
She will be available on Etsy in the near future.
found these great kitschy frames for my 8 x 10′s
Heidie created a great Treasury on Etsy featuring all the various styles seen on EBSQ . it’s pretty amazing the variety of art we get there. Please pop on by and check the treasury out!
Internationally-known Canadian artist Noelle Hunt works in a studio full of her muses collectible pieces of vintage kitsch. Her work, under the name WickedDollz, has been featured in magazines and celebrity homes around the world.
One reviewer wrote, “Ms. Hunt’s style can best be described as “nouveau retro.” Gathering inspiration from pin-up girls, big-eyed children, pity puppies and tiki bars, Noelle studies the objects of her affection and reshapes them in a modern style. Her artwork, like her personality, is delightfully unpretentious.
Noelle’s early work, revolving around disturbing representations of the female form, echoed a tragic eating disorder that nearly took her life. Her recent work, however, is inspired by lighter, nostalgic things, like Big Eyed Dolls and Mattel’s Liddle Kiddles, as well as newer dolls like Pullips, and Takara Blythe. Now, with tongue set firmly in cheek, she continues to express her own brand of humor and exorcise the demons.
